Describe your original response to COVID

I had plans to open the season on March 20th and I was super excited to kick it off. Then we got a call that the meet was canceled. That was SO tough to deal with because I was so ready. I needed that race.

More information for COVID started coming out and it started to get really dangerous -- really quick.

I had to keep training. I would have been damned if they called on us and I wasn't prepared. I was battling between my health and my career.

When they finally announced that the Olympics were canceled, I felt a lot of pressure lifted. While this did not halt training, It slowed it down but I have a goal of making the 2021 Olympic team and even though it has been postponed for this year, I still trained as if I was competing.

Talk to one or some of your proudest moments during the pandemic

This pandemic showed me my true passion for my sport. We could have easily been kicked off of one track and backed off but I know what it takes to get to where I need to get in my sport.

I couldn't afford to make the easy decision. I have what it takes and I know what it takes and that's what I had to do. Still I rise and still we train.

Describe how you’re feeling right now in one word

Although there is so much to be done and so much going on...I know I have been very very productive and active in what’s going on. I have balanced a lot of things and I am content with how I have done my part. The season is probably not going to happen but I know I have WORKED for things.

I know that the Black Lives Matter movement will just continue to thrive as we continue to leave it at the forefront. I will continue to fight for and by my people. The parallels between these two fights are glaring more now than ever -- All gas, no breaks.
