Interview with Bite Our Style
Nikki
Co-Founder, Bite Our Style
Charlotte, NC
Can you remember the first time Bite our style became a concept or thought?
Every time Fox was home (Charlotte) from Nashville, we would get dressed up and go to dinner at some new restaurant. We would also have the girls over and pregame before holiday parties, and I would cook something to make sure no one went out sad due to an empty stomach. Eventually people started asking how we found out about these restaurants or menu items, or how I came up with recipes, so we started thinking about how to document everything for our friends.
Fox eventually moved back to Charlotte from Nashville (a remote work pioneer) and we got everything going.
The blog originally began as a way to showcase both what we love to eat and what we love to wear, but it has really evolved since then. It went from food and fashion, to just food, to more of a food media consultancy and recipe hub.
How did it go from that point to launch?
Fox and I have sales, marketing and public relations backgrounds, so we took a two-fold approach and launched Instagram and the website concurrently. That way we had a repository for all of our long form recipes, reviews and playlists, but could build brand awareness and excitement on Instagram.
How long have you all been operating?
4 years. We launched in June of 2016.
What was the process of choosing the brand name?
It took MONTHS.. It was a labor of love, truly. Fox ultimately came up with the name. She texted me in the middle of the night and it was GOLD! It combines what we love the most; bites and style.
What has been the proudest moment for Bite Our Style for you?
It's a toss up between two things. The first moment was when we launched and all of our friends told their friends and we had SO much support. Also, when our followers started saying that the recipes were working it truly meant a lot to me, and reassured me that I may have a knack for recipe development.
The second moment was the one year anniversary when we threw a brunch. It was a private event with a prix fixe menu, bottomless brunch and a juice bar with a ton of innovative flavors. Let's just say we went through TWELVE cases of champagne, and got to bring almost 100 members of our family, friends and followers together for an afternoon. The day was essentially perfect from start to finish and it really solidified that we should keep on going.
What is your favorite dish to cook?
I like to think that Fox and I are hilarious as a duo and would love to document the live cooking/recipe development process --- so we would love to work on a YouTube cooking show eventually.
