DHOE: A marathon, not a sprint

This year we gathered for the annual DHOE and because those of you who #know, know, I will just say it was indeed a DHOE.

Homecoming is an opportunity for UNC students and alum to link up and celebrate life being on the campus we all love. It is the only time each year that all tarheels from all classes, both past and present, can gather for a weekend of football, school spirit, fashion shows and fun. I will reiterate that if Black UNC can do any one thing well, it is turning any event into a f-a-s-h-i-o-n show and DHOE did not fall short of this expectation. I mean...dressed to the T.

Carolina truly is a family and the love was evident as the masses got together at day parties, tailgates and the football game. There was certainly an air of both love and nostalgia as friends reflected on the “good old times”, whether they were a year or ten removed. The one message that was consistent across the board was that: DHOE is a marathon, not a sprint. Whether you followed protocol or not, im sure this was another weekend where we were reminded of just how sweet it is to be a tarheel born & a tarheel bred.

I took a few critical questions to instagram to gathered some thoughts from the Tarheels that attended DHOE and here are some of the top answers.

What was your DHOE theme song?

  1. Ballin x Mustard/Roddy Ricch

  2. Heat x Chris B

  3. Vibez x DaBaby

Honestly, I am good with this top three. Every time I got on the aux, Ballin was going to play and Arsema was going to complain but #DHOE

What was your favorite part of the weekend?

  1. Champagne Reign

  2. Tailgate

  3. Some variation of “messsssiness”

I mean, yes, Champagne reign did what it had to do. Draper and I gathered the young alums for a cool lil vibe on Friday night and had a great turnout. It was definitely not your typical saucy crab undergrad party so I could see how expectations were not met for certain audiences. See y’all for pt 2 next year though.

What is one word you would use to describe the weekend?

  1. Heartwarming

  2. Fulfilling

  3. LOADED

  4. Fun

I agree. Actually, I couldn't agree more. One of the responses was “Wish I made it to more”. LOL, two things, that's not one word and referring back to the title of this post...this weekend has GOT to be treated as a marathon or you’ll fail to make it through.

Lastly, but certainly not least, this year’s homecoming king and queen were the THIRD consecutive black couple. HISTORY. Jaylen and McKinley, I am so proud. Hold HIGH the legacy.

Anyways folks, I truly hope you enjoyed your weekend, friends, celebrations, and whatever else you got into *smiles*...until next time.

Go Heels!
